Stavanger, 24 March 2026: Nysnø invests in the Norwegian technology company Lace Lithography, which is developing a new and more energy-efficient technology for the production of microchips. The investment is made alongside a strong international investor consortium led by Atomico.
Nysnø is investing one million euros in Lace Lithography as part of a Series A round totaling approximately 40 million euros. Other investors include Atomico, Microsoft’s venture arm M12, as well as existing investors such as Future Ventures, Vsquared Ventures, and Runa Capital.
Lace Lithography, headquartered in Bergen, is developing a groundbreaking lithography technology that could revolutionize microchip manufacturing. The company’s technology uses metastable helium atoms instead of light, enabling significantly higher precision, substantially lower energy consumption, and reduced production costs.
“Lace Lithography is developing technology with the potential to transform how microchips are produced globally. More energy-efficient semiconductor manufacturing is critical in a world with rapidly growing demand for computing power,” says Solveig Sundsdal, Investment Manager at Nysnø.
Microchips are essential for both the green transition and digital development, but their production is currently highly energy-intensive. Lace Lithography’s technology could contribute to significant reductions in energy use, both in manufacturing and through more energy-efficient microchips that reduce power consumption in data centers and digital systems worldwide.
“This investment contributes to building a new Norwegian technology company with global potential, while also strengthening the development of European value chains within a strategically important industry,” Sundsdal adds.
Advanced microchips are currently produced through a highly concentrated and vulnerable global value chain. Lace Lithography represents a new European technological development in a field that is crucial for both digital sovereignty and the green transition.
About Lace Lithography:
