St1 Biokraft is a fully integrated producer and distributor of biogas and biomethane, with operations primarily in Sweden, Finland and Norway. The company was formed through the merger of Biokraft International and St1 Biogas and operates as a joint venture between St1 and HitecVision.
The company manages a portfolio of 13 operational biogas and biomethane assets, with total annual production capacity of approximately 750 GWh, and has a development pipeline exceeding 1 TWh across the Nordics. St1 Biokraft is present across the value chain, including downstream distribution to the Nordic transportation market, and has a pipeline of more than 50 liquefied biogas filling stations expected to be commissioned by 2030.
Biogas is a prime example of circularity
Biogas plays an important role in the transition to a more circular and low-emission society by converting organic waste into renewable energy and valuable biofertiliser. Biogas production delivers a three-fold emission mitigation effect: avoiding naturally occurring emissions from agriculture, replacing fossil fuels with biomethane, and reducing demand for carbon-intensive traditional fertiliser through the use of biofertiliser digestate.
St1 Biokraft contributes to decarbonisation in sectors where emissions are hard to abate, while enabling better resource utilisation across agriculture, industry and transport. The company’s ambition is to become an independent, vertically integrated biomethane player, reaching 3 TWh in annual production by 2030 and 6 TWh of traded volumes.
