Real-time data for a smarter, more resilient power grid
Ably is a Norwegian technology company that develops sensors and data solutions for the power system. Its sensors measure signals in the grid at very high frequency and give detailed, real-time information about the condition of power lines. The data can be used for grid operation and monitoring, predictive maintenance and power trading, among other things.
As the share of renewable energy in the power system grows, it becomes more important to balance, monitor and operate the grid efficiently. Ably’s technology gives grid operators and other players better insight into what is happening in the grid. This can help them detect faults earlier, manage bottlenecks better and fit more renewable energy into existing infrastructure.
From technology to commercial scale-up
Ably has around 20 installed units and five paying customers. In July 2026, Nysnø took part in a funding round in the company. The capital will be used to commercialise and scale the technology further.
Ably is an enabling technology for the energy transition. Its climate impact comes mainly from making the power system more efficient, flexible and resilient.
