Thorvald: autonomous robot for more sustainable agriculture
Saga Robotics has developed Thorvald, an autonomous robot designed to sustainably address modern agricultural challenges. Through light treatment, Thorvald reduces crop waste due to disease, decreases pesticide use, and lowers greenhouse gas emissions, while simultaneously improving crop quality and reducing costs for farmers related to both pesticides and labor.
Documented Impact
Thorvald combines effective disease control with data collection, providing farmers with better insights and decision-making foundations. The solution has demonstrated an effect equal to or better than traditional pesticides, with up to a 97 percent reduction in chemical use and significant emission cuts. Additionally, the technology contributes to improved soil health, increased biodiversity, and reduced water consumption.
The need for more sustainable food production is growing
By 2050, global food production must increase significantly, while emissions and resource consumption are reduced. With over 100,000 kilometers of autonomous operation and strong growth among existing customers, Saga Robotics is well-positioned to take a leading role in the development of future agriculture.
