Efficient hydrogen production with integrated carbon capture

ZEG Power is a Norwegian hydrogen company developing technology for hydrogen production with integrated carbon capture. The solution addresses a key challenge in hydrogen production by capturing CO₂ directly within the process, resulting in more efficient and cost-effective production with lower emissions.

The technology has been developed over several years at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), and the company is currently establishing its first industrial plant with a capacity of 700 kg of hydrogen per day. Through further scaling, ZEG Power can meet the increasing demand for hydrogen, particularly within the maritime sector and land-based transport.

The need for low-emission hydrogen

Global demand for hydrogen is increasing, driven by the need for emission cuts in energy systems, industry, and transport. Today, most hydrogen is produced from natural gas without carbon capture, resulting in significant emissions. Technology that combines hydrogen production with efficient CO₂ management will therefore be crucial for reducing the climate footprint and enabling a faster energy transition.

The energy carrier of the future

Hydrogen is emerging as an important energy carrier in sectors where electrification is challenging, such as heavy transport, maritime operations, and parts of the industrial sector. By integrating carbon capture into the production process itself, ZEG Power facilitates a more sustainable value chain for hydrogen and contributes to accelerating the transition to a low-emission society.
