Nysnø Invests in the Norway based maritime technology company Nereida Energy AS

Stavanger, 15 June 2026 – Nysnø Climate Investments (Nysnø) is investing in Nereida Energy AS (Nereida), a company developing energy storage systems for maritime electrification. The investment will support the company’s continued growth and the commercialization of battery solutions that can help reduce emissions from the maritime sector.

Energy storage systems for maritime electrification

The maritime sector accounts for approximately three percent of global CO₂ emissions. The transition to battery-electric propulsion can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with modern diesel-electric solutions.

Nereida offers battery solutions for a broad range of vessels, from service vessels and wellboats to ferries and offshore vessels. Its offering includes a proprietary control system and software platform that forms a distinct layer on top of the maritime battery systems. In addition, the company has developed a flexible module that allows battery strings to be configured at different heights for optimal use of the battery room. The system is also prepared for new chemistries and cell formats.

– Maritime electrification is essential for reducing emissions from shipping and other maritime activities. Nereida has a highly experienced team, strong technological expertise, and has already demonstrated its ability to secure commercial contracts in a market with significant growth potential. We believe the company is well positioned to contribute to emissions reductions in a sector where battery-electric solutions will play an increasingly important role in the years ahead, says John Egil Johannessen, Investment Manager at Nysnø.

Industry specialists with decades of experience

Nereida was established in 2025 by a team of industry specialists with several decades of experience in developing and implementing maritime electrification solutions.  The company is led by Geir Bjørkeli, former CEO of Corvus Energy, and its employees have backgrounds from companies including ABB Marine, Siemens Energy, Rolls-Royce, and Ulstein. Nereida is headquartered in Bergen, Norway.

The company has already secured its first commercial contract and is building on a growing order intake and project pipeline across ferries, service vessels, and other maritime segments. The investment round is led by Grieg New Energy and also includes Eviny Ventures and Nye Aasen AS.

– We are very pleased to bring on board such a group of competent, long-term investors. In addition to providing capital, they also offer strategic support and access to strong industrial ecosystems. We are seeing significant market interest, and these funds enable us to capitalize on these opportunities, says Geir Bjørkeli, CEO of Nereida Energy.
